DETROIT (WXYZ) — A SMART bus driver has been placed on leave after allegedly hitting and killing a man in the area of Woodward Avenue near the Michigan State Fairgrounds.
The incident happened around 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday. The driver was allegedly making room for another bus when the driver hit and killed a man, according to a preliminary investigation by the Detroit Police Department.
SMART is now investigating the incident.
The company released this statement: “We are saddened by the tragic incident that occurred near the State Fairgrounds bus stop. Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased,” said Robert Cramer, Deputy General Manager, “SMART is actively investigating the incident, and as is standard protocol, the driver has been taken for drug and alcohol testing, and placed out of service, as our investigation proceeds.”
