Man in stable condition after officer-involved shooting on Detroit's west side

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A 27-year-old man is in stable condition after an officer-involved shooting on Detroit's west side.

The shooting occurred in the area of Wyoming and Plymouth Sunday night.

According to police, the suspect was scene at a gas station with a handgun, and officers approched him.

The suspect allegedly took off, and after a short chase, the suspect turned the corner an an officer approached.

Chief Craig said body cam footage shows the officer saying drop the gun, before firing 5-6 shots at the suspect. The suspect was hit several times.

According to Craig, the suspect continued running after being shot, but had dropped the handgun. He said officers were not aware that the suspect dropped the handgun after being shot.

Craig said that the suspect was taken to the hospital in stable condition, and the weapon was found a few feet from the suspect.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear at this time.

This is the third police-involved shooting in Detroit since July 10.
