Miguel Ibarra-Cerda pleaded guilty to Reckless Driving Causing Death and Leaving the Scene of an Accident that Resulted in Death during a hearing on Tuesday.
The crash occurred on Potter Road between North Wixom Road and Flamingo Road on June 11. The victim, Justin Lee, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Miguel Ibarra-Cerda was arrested the following day in Lansing. Previously considered a flight risk, police had reason to believe that Ibarra-Cerda, who was in the country illegally, would go back to Mexico.
Lee's family said he was a football player at Walled Lake Western.
His stepfather, Dave Kataja, said he planned on rejoining the football team this season.
"That's all he talked about was wanting to get back into playing football again, because he's been off," Kataja said.
