WYANDOTTE, Mich. (WXYZ) — Interesting things happen in the land of Wyandotte.

In the police department's crime log, officers described what they called a "modern day Romeo and Juliet story."

Let's set the scene.

It was a late Wednesday night when a couple walking and "acting suspiciously" caught the eye of Wyandotte Police officers.

When the couple saw the officers, they split, trying to shake the cops – to no avail. Police were hot on their trail.

They did the "same ole same ole routine," as officers described it, giving fake names and such.

Police learned the couple had multiple I.D.'s and credit cards on them and "had fraudulently obtained lots of high end phones, tablets, etc."

When the woman was being transported from the police department's holding facility to another detention center, an officer had the pleasure of hearing the woman's companion make a marriage proposal – and she accepted.
