Detroit police are investigating after an attempted carjacking on the city's west side early this morning.

Police say around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man living in the 16800 block of Rutherford was getting into his car when two men approached and tried to steal the vehicle. The man, however, didn't go down without a fight.

We're told the man is a CPL holder and he pulled his gun out and fired at the suspects. Police say the suspects also opened fire.

One of the suspects appeared to be hit in the leg before they both fled in a dark Chevy Impala, according to police.

Detroit police were able to locate one of the suspects at the hospital and they are now questioning him. The second suspect is still on the loose.
