Man shoots, kills dog attacking his dog, then 'unintentionally' shoots dog's owner

DETROIT (WXYZ) — A dog is dead and its owner, a 26-year-old man, is in stable condition in the hospital after a shooting Sunday morning on the city's west side.

The incident happened in the 13100 block of Schoolcraft early Sunday.

Police say the victim's dog got loose and attacked another dog in the area. The owner of the dog being attacked shot the attacking dog, killing it. Then, the armed man told police he "unintentionally" shot the owner of the attacking dog in the process.

After the shooting, the armed man took his injured dog and fled the scene on foot.

The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital.

The armed suspect is described as a black man, unknown age. He was wearing all black. The breeds of each of each dog is currently unknown.

This is an ongoing investigation.
