LAPEER, Mich. (WXYZ) — A 33-year-old man was shot and killed Monday morning during an altercation with another man outside a gas station at 252 S. Main St. in Lapeer. The suspect involved has been arrested.
The deadly shooting happened around 7:16 a.m. at Clark gas station. After a clerk at the business was notified that a man had been shot in the parking lot, police were called.
The 33-year-old man was found unresponsive. Michigan State Police attempted life-saving measures. The man later died at Lapeer McLaren Region Hospital, police said.
A preliminary investigation found that there was a dispute between two men in the parking lot, which escalated into shots being fired by only one person. The suspect, a 34-year-old man from Lapeer, was taken into police custody.
This is an ongoing investigation and an autopsy is expected to be performed by the Lapeer County Medical Examiner's office.
