Man steals car in Ann Arbor with 2 kids inside, leads police on 100 mph chase

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ann Arbor police are searching for the suspect who stole a car with a man and two kids inside, led police on a 100 mph chase and was able to escape police on foot Wednesday night.

According to police, it started when they executed a search warrant in the 3500 block of State St. around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

During the search, a suspect tried to get in the house, law police inside and fled on foot. He then ran to a parking lot o a Mobil gas station on S. State St. and saw a vehicle parked near the entrance running.

The suspect then got inside the car with an adult male inside and a 2-year-old and 4-year-old also inside. He took off with them all inside and police followed.

The chase continued onto eastbound I-94 with speeds going higher than 100 mph. Officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle but were able to overtake it.

The vehicle then got off the highway and went into a neighborhood east of Ann Arbor, and the suspect got out and took off on foot, leaving the kids and man inside unharmed.

Police are still searching for the suspect, and anyone with information is asked to call police at 734-794-6939.
