The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted murder and suicide that happened early Saturday morning in Berlin Township.
According to deputies, it happened inside the Newport Farms Manufactured Housing Community around 5 a.m.
Police say a 55-year-old woman was woken up by her husband, who then fired a shot at her, hitting her in the neck. She and her daughter fled the home and called 911 while the suspect remained inside.
Deputies responded and surrounded the home while evacuating nearby residents. They tried to contact the man, who was barricaded inside, but didn't get an answer.
Members of the special response team went inside the home and found the suspect dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
His wife was taken to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
