RIVER ROUGE, Mich. (WXYZ) — A man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty after allegedly beating his dog with a 12-inch piece of wood.
According to police, Isaiah Hayes was walking in a field with his dog near Polk Street in River Rouge when he was stopped by a public safety officer patrolling the area.
The officer noticed that the dog was covered in blood, so he confronted Hayes.
Hayes then told him that the dog had growled at his 2-year-old son, which is why he took the dog to the field and began hitting the animal with the piece of wood.
Hayes told the officer that he "took it too far." He was later arrested for animal cruelty and the dog was taken to a local veterinarian.
The defendant will be arraigned in 25th District Court.
