GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WXYZ) — A suspect is in custody after allegedly vandalizing and planting fireworks inside and around a Western Michigan church Sunday, causing services to be canceled.

Police say the situation has been resolved following the cancellation of 9 and 11 a.m. mass services at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish, 920 Fulton St., in Grand Haven. Officers received a call shortly after 7 a.m. regarding a man who was being disorderly in the building. When officers arrived they found that the suspect had vandalized the interior of the building, damaged a television on the property and placed M5000 Jumbo firecrackers at multiple locations inside and outside of the church.

M5000 firecrackers are legally available for purchase, according to police.

The sanctuary was not vandalized.

During the investigation, the building was searched by K-9 units from the Michigan State Police. No other explosives were located on the property.

Police say there is no evidence of an ongoing threat.

The suspect was arrested and the building was evacuated Sunday morning. The suspect is now being held at Ottawa County Jail.
