A South Lyon City Councilwoman has received a personal protection order against one of her colleagues.
According to South Lyon Police, Councilwoman Mary Parisien reported a suspicious circumstance that Councilman Carl Richards was peeping into her window and making inappropriate comments.
Police said they launched an investigation and turned their investigation over to the city attorney. The attorney declined to press charges and they couldn't prove any of the allegations, which closed the criminal investigation.
Parisien then took the matter to civil court to obtain the personal protection order, which was granted. According to Hometown Life, Richards told police he saw into Parisien's home from the sidewalk, but Parisien said he described furniture in rooms that included the bedroom which isn't visible from the sidewalk.
During a city council meeting on Nov. 26, Richards was seated at the back of the council chambers while Parisien was seated with the rest of the council.
"As you may have noticed, Councilman Richards will not be seated here at the table this evening due to the nature of his actions towards a fellow council member, which has been deemed inappropriate by the court of law." Mayor Dan Pelchat said during a statement at the beginning of the meeting. "The city is being proactive to address this matter in this manner."
