(WXYZ) — We previously told you about a metro Detroit doctor who is making health care more affordable and personal for his patients. Now, he's added another doctor to his practice.

Dr. Paul Thomas became frustrated with the entire health care system and created a model with a unique approach to the doctor-patient relationship.

The direct primary health care model provides service for patients that they can afford through a monthly membership. It also provides personal care and instant communication through text or email.

Due to the overwhelming demand for the primary health service, Plum Health added Dr. Raquel Orlich, who will be joining in July.

"I'm excited to help make health care more affordable, accessible and human in Detroit," Dr. Orlich said. "I am joining the Plum Health team because I believe in the mission, and I'm looking forward to establishing strong relationships with my patients."

"We've had an overwhelming response to our style of healthcare, so we need to add a team member to meet the demand," Dr. Thomas said. There are currently 500 members in the practice who are cared for by Dr. Thomas. With Dr. Orlich's arrival, Plum Health can care for an additional 500 patients.

Through the health care model, Plum Health provides its patients with steeply discounted medications, labs, imaging services and procedures. A Plum Health subscription is between $10 and $89 per month.
