(WXYZ) — November is Adoption Awareness Month.
This is a time when families who have adopted celebrate and a time to raise awareness of the more than 13,000 children in foster care in Michigan. About 3,000 youth in the state are going through the adoption process, but there are hundreds without matched homes.
Wolverine Human Services, one of the largest child welfare agencies in Michigan, has completed 588 adoptions between 2009-2020 – and completed 49 this year.
The Lazette-Smith family joined 7 Action News This Morning to talk about the joys of adoption. Watch their stories in the video player above.
