YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) — Ray Tuck of Yspilanti is honoring his family member, Thomas Wigle who died in World War II, on Memorial Day.
"He took leadership of a bunch of men to get up on the hill," he said. "They captured 36 German soldiers, but unfortunately, he was mortally wounded that day."
Tuck took those memorials and created a 50-flag salute meant for veterans and military personnel to acknowledge their service and sacrifice.
With parades and other ceremonies canceled due to COVID-19, Tuck put the flags on stakes so they can blow in the wind.
"I wanted to still be able to do something. So i figured putting it in front of my house and on the side of my house, post it on social media so people could drive by and safely view the display," he said.
