Roseville police say a man shot a pit bull who was attacking his dog while he walked it on Saturday morning.

According to police, the 52-year-old man was walking his Mastiff in the 26000 block of Lehner St. when the attack happened.

Police say the pit bull and some form of a lab mix were in the backyard of a home, but were able to squeeze through a gap and get out.

That's when police say the pit bull began attacking the mastiff.

The man tried to fight off the pit bull, police said, but was not able to. Police said the man feared for his dog's life, so he pulled out a handgun and shot the pit bull twice, killing it.

Police say the man's dog suffered "numerous lacerations to his face and head area," but they don't appear to be life threatening.

The owner was not injured and does have a CPL. Police are still investigating and it is being reviewed by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
