A holiday treat returns to Detroit once again this year, and it allows local youth dancers to shine on stage at the prestigious Fox Theatre. The Moscow Ballet will perform the Great Russian Nutcracker on Sunday December 17, 2017.
Local youth dancers from all over Metro Detroit auditioned to dance alongside the professional dancers, and will be featured in several roles on stage during the performance. More than 100 student dancers auditioned at MDM Dance Project in Shelby Township for parts in the prestigious show.
This is the 25th year of touring for the Moscow Ballet, and the Great Russian Nutcracker features award-winning principal dancers, life-size Matrushka (Nesting Dolls) and the breathtaking “Dove of Peace,” which is created by two dancers each with a 20-foot-long wing.
There will be three performances on Sunday December 17, at 12pm, 4pm, and 8pm. The students who auditioned through MDM Dance Project will dance in the 4pm show. The students from Performers Edge Dance Company in Northville will be in the 8pm show.
