State Senator Bert Johnson is expected to be arraigned on charges of conspiracy and theft of a federal program on Tuesday.

Johnson is expected to plead not guilty in the case.

The Highland Park democrat was indicted last week accused of paying a ghost employee who did not work for the senate.

Prosecutors say he was stealing tax dollars in order to pay back a loan.

Last month, a joint task force between the FBI and Michigan State Police raided his Highland Park home and his office in Lansing.

He's also the target of a recall campaign right now.

Johnson has been a state senator for the second district since 2010, before that he served two terms in the state house.

His district includes Harper Woods and Grosse Pointe Woods.

Those communities also make up state house district one, which has no representation right now after Brian Banks resigned from office in February.

If found guilty, he could face up to ten years in federal prison.
