PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) — The Michigan Animal Rescue League is investing $7 million in a new facility in Pontiac.
"This new building will serve as a launching pad for expanded programs and services aimed at benefiting the people in the community as much as the animals," MARL said in a statement.
Construction began in July 2019 after two anonymous donors contributed $1 million and $4 million, respectively.
The building is expected to be ready by fall 2020.
“This new facility is just one big step in MARL’s long-term goal of responding to the needs of the animals and people in Pontiac, Oakland County and beyond,” said Magee Humes, MARL executive director, in a press release. “The really exciting work begins once we move in. This new space gives us the ability to reach twice as many animals, increase our level of care and support the community at a whole new level.”
The new 15,000 square foot shelter will offer 24-hour indoor-outdoor access for dogs, several play areas for animals to exercise, cat housing and a ball pit.
