(WXYZ) - One Michigan-based company is on a mission to help protect phones and the world.
"Because of a Case" is the brainchild of 34-year-old Jamie Strasberger from Huntington Woods. The goal: giving back to a number of charities one fashionable phone case at a time.
Strasberger is a YouTube reviewer turned entrepreneur.
"I was doing reviews on a YouTube channel, reviewing all different types of products and I wanted to come out with a product myself," she said. "Me and my husband started this company, but we also wanted to give back."
The company's cases feature a number of designs and benefit multiple charities including ones that focus on mental health, wildlife conservancy and clean drinking water.
"We started with mental health because we knew a lot of people were affected with it, including myself," said Strasberger. "But then our customers started requesting different causes for us to donate to so we started adding one by one."
Normally, 10 percent of each case sale is donated, but Strasberger says they also run promotions where the company has given up to 95 percent of the profits to charity.
She credits collaborations with YouTube stars for the early success. The cases have even gained the attention of some celebrities including Sarah Herron from ABC's The Bachelor. In the company's first year of business, Strasberger says they've been able to give more than $5,000 to charities.
Right now, she is focusing on a recent Kickstarter launch for the company. She's hoping they can raise enough money to introduce a premium and more protective case mold.
