The Michigan Humane Society, alongside the BISSELL Pet Foundation, is hosting the "Empty The Shelters' event this Saturday.
The event is in response to an overcrowding in shelters across the country. Eighty-one organizations across 14 states are participating in the event.
According to the BISSELL Pet Foundation's website, "all potential adopters are screened by qualified adoption counselors at every participating shelter to ensure each pet is matched with the right family."
Nearly 17,000 pets have been adopted in 15 states since May 2016, according to the BISSELL Pet Foundation's website.
