(WXYZ) — Influenza cases are on the rise in Michigan, and latest data from the Michigan Disease Surveillance Systems reports that there’s been over 300,000 “Flu-Like Disease” as of Dec 28th. And of those, over 30,000 have been Influenza.

Now, leading the way is the B Victoria Lineage virus. And this is notable because these types of viruses are unusual for this time of the year. We don’t typically see this many cases until later in the flu season.

The flu is bad nationwide. The CDC says flu activity is not only high, but it’s been elevated for eight weeks. And cases continues to increase.

The CDC does rank Michigan in the "low" category for its weekly influenza-like illness activity level indicator, and the state said it's regional.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this story linked to a report from KinstaHealth that called Michigan the 2nd sickest state in the country. That determination found 6.89 percent of the state's population was Ill, and came from 25 million anonymous temperature readings. We changed the story after seeing the CDC's report that Influenza-Like Illness activity level indicator found Michigan was in the "low" category.
