A community is rallying around a Macomb County family after tragedy struck this past week.
Amy and Jamie Martin left on a road trip to the East Coast on Monday when they were reportedly involved in a bad accident in Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Jamie was driving on Interstate 80 when he crashed into the back of a tractor trailer tanker around 5:30 p.m. The truck had apparently stopped before entering a construction zone.
The pair were married in February and expecting their first child.
Christina Wojnicki, Amy's sister, writes on their GoFundMe page that Jamie died shortly after the accident and Amy was airlifted to a nearby hospital where doctors were unable to save their baby boy. The couple had planned to name him Jameson.
Amy is now recovering in the ICU.
The family is currently raising money to help pay for expenses in the wake of this tragedy. In just four hours, the community has raised more than $30,000 for Amy and their families.
