The Michigan GOP stepped up its opposition to a recount effort Tuesday, as that hand recount was to begin Friday - should Green Party candidate Jill Stein go through with her request for one.

We also learned the state estimates the cost of the process could top $2 million, well above the $700K base payment required of the Stein campaign.

The GOP warns counties and taxpayers will have to make up the difference.

The state board that oversees elections plans a 10 day recount. But opponents say it will likely take longer to count the 4.8 million votes Stein has called into question.

Her attorney says of the added price, “Democracy is priceless.”
