The Michigan Legislature unanimously approved a bill on Thursday that would give $28 million more in funding to Flint during the city's water crisis.
House Bill 5220 gives $28 million to the city, including $22.6 million from the General Fund revenue, for six state departments.
Those departments are education, environmental quality, health and human services, licensing and regulatory affairs, military and veterans affairs and the state police.
With the money, the state will be able to give more bottled water, water filters and replacement filter cartridges to Flint residents. The Department of Health and Human Services will also help with analysis and case management of people at risk of elevated blood lead levels, as well as nutrition support, food banks and community education.
The Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs will use the funds to address plumbing fixture replacements in the city.
Money from the Department of Education will help hire additional school nursers, provide nutritional snacks for Intermediate School District elementary students and more.
The amended bill will now go to Governor Rick Snyder's desk for his signature.
