Just when you thought winter was behind us here in Michigan -- a gut punch.
A snowstorm is gearing up to hit the state. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Saginaw, Midland and other northern counties.
While it may seem out of the ordinary, we're no strangers to big winter storms this time of the year. Detroit's biggest snowstorm on record (24.5") actually occurred on April 6 in 1886 which is almost 131 years ago to the day, according to the National Weather Service.
In metro Detroit this week, we're going to fare a bit better.
Rain and dropping temperatures could be just enough to deliver up to two inches of wet snow across metro Detroit on Thursday.
Winds will also pick up Thursday, starting around 10-15 mph, and by the afternoon, gusts can hit as high as 32 mph.
Chilly temperatures remain Friday for Opening Day in Detroit, and we can even expect to see a few flurries during the baseball game – but no accumulation. Skies will be mostly cloudy, with the highest temperatures reaching the upper 40s.
On the bright side, looks like sun and warmer temperatures return in time for the weekend.
