OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WXYZ) — Police are investigating after a car driving the wrong way on a freeway ramp crashed into a light pole.

Michigan State Police say that early Friday morning, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office received a call for a traffic crash on Kent Lake Road near I-96.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a Chevy Tahoe was traveling south on Kent Lake Road, entered the westbound I-96 ramp going the wrong way at a very high rate of speed, left the ramp and hit a light pole.

Police say the vehicle was occupied by a male driver and female passenger who were reportedly uncooperative and refused to identify themselves or speak with troopers.

The Chevy is also unregistered, police say, and severely damaged making owner identification difficult. Both the driver and passenger were seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

Police say it is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the crash.
