Michigan State Police responded to a suspicious white male walking in the street with a knife yelling at cars, when things escalated quickly.
"He just kind of pulled in like to head him off, he didn’t come up on the grass or anything, and the guy freaked out, you could tell he was freaking out and he just whipped his Mountain Dew bottle at the police car," said Rob Johnson, with Groulx Automotive. "Then that’s when the guy must of pulled something out and he was coming faster and then he shot him."
The incident happened around 5 p.m. Employees inside Groulx Automotive say they saw the entire incident play out.
"He just darted around to the police officer who’s just getting out of the car and the next the next thing you know the police officer is just backing up," Johnson said.
The man who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital. MSP couldn't give an update on his condition. Employees at Groulx say it appeared like the trooper did whatever they could to avoid the shooting.
"The guy did everything he could from my perspective," Johnson said. "I mean he was back up from the guy. He was holding his gun and just like that moved pretty quick backwards."
