Michigan State Police sources say a trooper was involved in a hit-and-run crash on I-94 eastbound near 8 Mile in Macomb County early Friday morning.
Sources tell 7 Action News the accident stemmed from a road rage incident. We're told the driver of a dark-colored GMC pickup truck slammed on their brakes and caused another vehicle to swerve and side-swipe MSP Trooper Ali Hammoud on his motorcycle.
Hammoud is a four-year veteran with Michigan State Police. He was headed to the funeral for Detroit Police Sergeant Kenneth Steil in St. Clair Shores when he was hit, according to police.
Police are now looking for the driver of that truck.
MSP says Trooper Hammoud has broken ribs and other injuries. He is resting comfortably and in stable condition.
