Michigan State changes fight song title

Happy 100th birthday to MSU's fight song!

To celebrate, the university has renamed the tune "Victory for MSU" --the last line in the iconic song.

A civil engineering major, Francis Irving Lankey, composed the "MSU Fight Song" in 1915 inspired by the team's back-to-back wins over Michigan and Wisconsin, according to the university. His friend, Arthur L. Sayles wrote most of the words.

MSU announced the name change with a Spartan Virtual Choir video:

Sing along with the lyrics below:

On the banks of the Red Cedar,
There's a school that's known to all;
Its specialty is winning,
And those Spartans play good ball;
Spartan teams are never beaten,
All through the game they'll fight;
Fight for the only colors,
Green and White.
Go right through for MSU,
Watch the points keep growing.
Spartan teams are bound to win,
They're fighting with a vim.
Rah! Rah! Rah!
See their team is weakening,
We're going to win this game.
Fight! Fight! Rah! Team, Fight!
Victory for MSU.
