LANSING, Mich. (WXYZ) — Teachers from all over the state of Michigan are heading to Lansing to rally for education funding.

They say they are there to show support for Governor Gretchen Whitmer's plan to fund schools.

The Michigan Education Association is in favor of Whitmer's plan to implement a "weighted" K-12 funding formula, which factors in higher costs for certain students.

Per the plan, more funding will be available for special education programs and for the economically disadvantaged and other "at risk" students.

The plan includes $235 million in additional base aid – a 2.5 percent jump.
