(WXYZ) — The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating an arson at a Pontiac apartment where a woman and two young children were inside.
According to deputies, the 22-year-old woman said she woke up and smelled smoke and saw a fire in the kitchen. She and the two kids, a 2-year-old boy and 9-month-old girl, were able to safely evacuate the apartment.
Deputies went inside and found a 12-ounce Miller High Life bottle on the floor with a cloth hanging out of it and a strong smell of gas. The cloth was still burning.
Deputies put out the fire before the fire department arrived on scene.
According to the sheriff's office, it appears that someone made entry into the home through a sliding glass door that was left unlocked.
