BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Pontiac mom has been ordered to appear in court after admitting to using her daughter's backpack to steal from an Ulta Beauty store.

On June 3 around 5 p.m., Bloomfield Township Police responded to the Ulta Beauty store located at 2161 Telegraph Road.

The store manager told officers a woman was in the store with a young child and stole several items. Officers reviewed security camera video and saw the woman unzipping the child’s backpack and stealing nearly $400 worth of items.

Investigators identified the mother as 26-year-old Amela Cecilia Lomeli from Pontiac. When interviewed, Lomeli admitted to stealing and concealing the items in her daughter’s backpack, according to police.

On July 8, Lomeli turned herself into Bloomfield Township Police and was arraigned in the 48th District Court on retail fraud charges.

She was given a $2,500 personal bond, and ordered to appear back in court on August 6 at 9:00 am.
