Police say a gunman opened fire into a crowd of people at a 4th of July block party - killing a young man.

Now they need your help finding him.

The victim in this deadly shooting was a young father; now his son has to grow up without him.

Detroit police say 21-year-old Lamonte Jacobs was gunned down on the city's east side a few weeks ago in front of hundreds of people, including kids.

It was around 12:15 on July 5th on the 5000 block of Cooper.

Lamonte is struck in the head.

"I couldn’t believe it they told me my son was shot in the head and he was being rushed to the hospital," says his father Willie Clark III.

Detectives say it's unclear if Lamonte was the intended target or hit by a stray bullet and that's where they need your help.

"He fired shots into a crowd of several people and didn’t show any regard for anyone's safety," says DPS Detective John Mitchell. "I have yet to receive information from anyone at the party.”

Lamonte's loved ones are also asking for your help.

"Don't be afraid come forward,” says Lamonte’s aunt Paula Washington. “If it was you're family member you would want to know."

If you have any information about this deadly shooting you're urged to call the Detroit police department's homicide tip line or Crime Stoppers.

Remember all calls are anonymous and detectives say no tip is too small.
