DETROIT (WXYZ) — A Toledo, Ohio woman is facing charges in Detroit for the deaths of her two children after allegedly side swipping a vehicle and then crashing while attempting to flee the scene.

Jackson-Pool's 2-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son were killed in the crash. Her 5-year-old daughter was severely injured, police say.

“What happens when an allegedly unlicensed driver runs through multiple stop signs on a residential street at a high rate of speed with young children unsecured in the back seat? Very sadly, in this case, two dead children under the age of four,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

Zantea Marie Jackson-Pool, 23, is charged with reckless driving causing death, driving while license is suspended and causing death, reckless driving causing serious injury, driving with a suspended license and causing serious injury and second-degree child abuse.

The crash happened May 21 around 8:30 p.m.

Jackson-Pool was driving when she allegedly sideswiped a car in the area of Agnes and Field streets in Detroit. She fled the scene and while speeding away, hit another vehicle allegedly causing the crash.

The children were not restrained or in car seats at the time of the crash, police say.

A man and a woman were in the vehicle Jackson-Pool crashed into at the intersection of Agenes, police say, causing both cars to go off the street due to the impact. Jackson-Pool's car flipped over and onto the passenger side.

The 5-year-old is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Another woman was in the car with Jackson-Pool, and they both suffered bone fractures. The man and woman in the other vehicle sustained minor injuries from the crash.
