A woman is facing manslaughter and child abuse charges after her 1-year-old died in an October apartment fire.
Romulus police say on October 25, officers and firefighters responded to the fire in the 1500 block of Mountainway Street. We're told the apartment was fully engulfed when first responders arrived.
The 1-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The child's mother, Shavonne Watkins, was charged today with involuntary manslaughter, punishable up to 15 years in prison, and child abuse, punishable up to 10 years in prison.
A probable cause conference has been set for December 30 with a preliminary examination set for January 6.
