HOWELL (WXYZ) — A mother who was with her two young children was robbed at knifepoint outside of Tanger Outlet Mall in Howell Monday morning.

The woman was taking her 3-year-old and 11-month-old out of the car when a man approached her with a knife and demanded her purse. She complied, then the suspect left on foot.

The woman watched as the suspect got into a gray Honda, then she called the police. Shortly after, a deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office located the suspect sitting in his car. When the deputy approached the vehicle, the suspect fled. The deputy initiated a pursuit, following the Honda on I-96 from M-59, to the Fowlerville Road exit where deputies were able to stop the car without incident, a release states.

The suspect is a 21-year-old from West Bloomfield. He's currently lodged at Livingston County Jail.
