Mount Clemens gives green light to marijuana process center and retail facility at closed Gibraltar Trade Center

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A brand new business will occupy the Gibraltar Trade Center in Mount Clemens.

The public market shut its doors in 2017, citing declining sales from online competition.

Action News confirmed, city officials in Mount Clemens approved a medical marijuana processing center and retail facility.

For 37 years, the 600,000-square-foot building was a shopping mecca for families. During peak hours, vehicles filled the parking lot and retailers sold everything from toys to guns. Now, a new product will fill the void at Gibraltar Trade Center.

It's welcomed news for Mount Clemens resident Shashonda McNeal. The mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

"With the medical marijuana, I think it will alleviate a lot of the medicine I have to take on a day to day bases," McNeal said.

The former Kaatz Flower Shop will on Groesbeck will be the site of a medical marijuana retail center. Action News will continue to follow this developing story.
