FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police say 11 people were injured after a limo bus flipped along I-75 in Monroe County on Thursday evening.

According to MSP, the bus was transporting members of the City of Detroit's Community Violence Intervention Program to Cedar Point. MSP said most of the people on the bus were teenagers.

Force Detroit confirmed to 7 News Detroit that it was their group that was on the bus. They released a statement that reads in part, "We are deeply saddened that what began as a joyful celebration of success ended in a traffic accident. Our hearts are with those who were injured, and we are praying for their full and speedy recovery."

Police say the limo-bus left the roadway for an unknown reason and rolled several times, resulting in multiple passengers being ejected. The driver, a 69-year-old man from Detroit, said he has no recollection of the crash, and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors.

In all, MSP said there were 15 people on the bus. Of those, 11 were transported to three different hospitals.

One person is in critical condition, two had serious injuries and eight people sustained minor injuries, according to police.

The driver was cited at the scene, and officials determined the driver did not have proper group designation on his license and lacked a valid medical certificate. The company operating the bus also reportedly did not have valid operating authority to transport passengers.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call 734-242-3500.
