Disney World is building 'Frozen' attraction

Disney's "Frozen" was a huge blockbuster so it makes sense that Disney will try to capitalize on the popularity of the animated film with a "Frozen" attraction at Walt Disney World.

Disney announced last week that construction has begun for a "Frozen" attraction at the Norway Pavilion in the Epcot section of Disney World.

The new attraction will replace Maelstrom, a dark boat ride, that opened in 1988. The "Frozen" attraction will take guests to Arendelle and "immerse them in many of their favorite moments and music from the film," according to a statement by Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

"The pavilion will also include a royal greeting location where Anna and Elsa can meet our guests," Staggs said. "We think these "Frozen" elements are great compliments to the Norway Pavilion, which showcases the country and region that inspired the film."

The statement does not give more details about the new attraction, such as the opening date.

"Frozen" opened in November 2013 and has generated more than $400 million in gross revenues in the U.S. alone. The movie won Academy Awards for animated feature film and for original song for "Let It Go."
