Nearly 700,000 Jeep and Dodge SUVs recalled due to risk of engines stalling

Posted

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Fiat Chrysler is recalling an estimated 528,594 SUVs in the U.S. because of a problem that can cause engines to stall.

The company announced Thursday that it discovered silicon deposits on the contact points of certain fuel pump relays can interrupt electrical currents and prevent engine start-ups.

Fiat Chrysler says it’s unaware of any injuries or accidents potentially related to the recall.

The recall affects certain 2011-13 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees, according to a press release. Relays in the affected vehicles may have been installed in response to a previous recall.

Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service, which will be provided free of charge. Those with questions or concerns can call 1-800-853-1403.

The company says more vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 34,764), Mexico (est. 18,152) and certain markets outside North America (est. 116,511).
