Nearly 300 tickets given in 12 hours during Operation Ghost Rider on M-59

(WXYZ) — Last Month, state, county and local law enforcement agencies patrolled M-59 in unmarked vehicles to target distracted drivers. According to police, during a 12-hour span, they issued nearly 300 tickets and made several arrests.

It happened on April 25th, and 22 officers from Michigan State Police, Macomb County Sheriff's Office, Auburn Hills, Chesterfield Township, Shelby Township, Sterling Heights and Utica targeted M-59 between I-75 and I-94 for 12 hours.

In that time, officers stopped 300 vehicles, issued 295 citations and made five arrests.

Operation Ghost Rider was revealed in 2017 in Macomb County, and that year during 18 hours of enforcement, they have made 907 traffic stops with 726 citations issued and 34 arrests. Last year, they stoped 530 vehicles, issued 440 citations and made nine arrests.
