If you're looking for "fresh" costume ideas, you may want to take one from the playbook of a Michigan 5-year-old who brings her Halloween A-game year after year thanks to her mother's creative vision.
This year, the family's theme centered around Subway, with a new baby cousin wrapped up as a little Subway sandwich.
Tiffany Brown of Redford said the tradition of getting in the spooky spirit started with her grandmother. "She used to dress me up . . . she would always come up with something creative," said Brown.
So, when her daughter, Harper, came along five years ago, Brown said she wanted to continue the tradition.
"I always decide on what I’m going to do and I’m really creative," said Brown. "I put it all together, I get everything made, I get the props together."
Brown said Harper is all about the annual tradition: "She loves it, she’s ready for it every year — she always asks, 'mommy, what are you going to do for me?'"
Brown said it usually takes her a few weeks to gather her thoughts and put each look together. Her and her daughter then plan a photoshoot so they can keep the memories forever. Brown said they do it the day before Halloween so that the day of, Harper can wear the costume she picks out each year.
"I don’t deprive her of that," said Brown. "We go ahead and let her do her own thing on Halloween."
This year, Harper wanted to be Cinderella.
As far as future costuming plans, Brown said she really wants to do the Adams Family. I'll guess we'll just have to wait and see what she dreams up for Halloween 2021. To follow along on the fun, check out @Harperlynn2015 on Instagram.
