New Detroit event shines spotlight on independent filmmakers

Posted

It's a new event aimed at shining the spotlight on low-budget independent filmmakers.

The "I See You Awards" are set to be held at the Bel Air Luxury Cinema in Detroit on Sunday, August 27.

The award show was created by Terri J. Lee, a member of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, as a way to recognize independently-produced movies.

"I believe indie filmmakers need and deserve to see their hard work, sacrifices and dedication recognized, so the idea for the I See You Awards® was born,” said Lee in a statement.

Michigan native and award-winning actor Revon Yousif will co-host the event.

Guests are invited to watch a screening of the nominated films on August 24 at the Emagine Theater in Novi and vote for the People's Choice Award.
