New drunk driving crackdown starts Wednesday

Posted

Several law enforcement agencies will be working together this week to launch a new drunk driving crackdown.

The initiative begins Wednesday, but will be officially announced today in Troy.

According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, alcohol and drug use combined with the lack of seat belts play a major role in deadly and serious injury crashes in March and early April.

The crackdown coincides with March Madness, high school and college spring breaks and St. Patrick's Day.

The initiative runs from March 16th through April 4th and is paid for by federal funds.
