If you have a smartphone, research suggests you typically use the same three apps nearly everyday. One local company, called Lunar, says that's all you should be paying for.
“Rather than paying some number of dollars for some number of gigabytes each month and trying to figure out what your data usage is going to be. You can forget all that and just pay for what you use each day," says Hunter Rosenblume, CEO of Lunar.
Lunar has a pay-as-you-go data program that allows customers to only pay for data they use. It costs $0.25 per day, per app used. So if you use Facebook, Instagram and Twitter in one day, you'll pay $0.75. If you only use Snapchat the following day, you'll owe $0.25.
“We said there shouldn’t be plans, you should be paying for what you need, when you need it and so people have been really excited about that response. They don’t feel like they’re being cheated,” says Rosenblume.
"That is the goal: save people a lot of money and be a telecom that people don't hate," adds Rohith Varanasi, Lunar's CTO.
