The city of Dearborn is getting a new veterans park and war memorial in 2016. The current memorial is on the corner outside city hall but the new memorial will be outside the Henry Ford Centennial Library. It will be more visible and, hopefully, encourage people to visit the library and learn about the wars.
"We hope to draw people not only to the park but to the library to continue the education process, says Sean Green, U.S. Navy vet.
The new memorial is replacing the marble fountain which hasn't worked since 2011. According to city officials, the fountain would cost more than $1 million dollars to fix so instead of fixing it, the city is going to honor its veterans.
The new memorial is being made possible by a donation from AK Steel.
