DETROIT (WXYZ) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed the "pay as you stay" legislation into law.

The new law will provide relief for struggling homeowners.

Up to 31,000 Detroiters will be able to keep their homes without fear of foreclosure.

The law will also help eliminate fines and interest, while lowering monthly payments. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and other leaders were on hand to witness the bill become a law.
