Those who work or visit the Detroit Medical Center can also visit new restaurants. Right now, five new places are open and more are expected.

"Finally something else, otherwise we’d have to walk to other hospitals or across the street to get something different than cafeteria food.,” says RN Case Manager Nancy Tatar.

The new eatery is called DMC Midtown Marketplace a Papa Joe's Gourmet Eatery. It's a partnership between DMC and Papa Joe's Gourmet Market. The project costs $8.2 million.

“Nobody really wants hospital cafeteria food and now we’re able to give them something very, very different and frankly, much better,” says Conrad Mallett, DMC chief administrative officer.

"This is all food that’s created by chefs. It’s not cafeteria food and it’s definitely not food court food,” adds Anthony Curtis, Papa Joe's Gourmet Market managing member.

This project also added 150 new jobs in Midtown.

Anyone living, working or shopping in Midtown or downtown Detroit will have access to new food options. Those options include Starbuck’s, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, Kabob Grill, Papa Joe’s Gourmet Foods, Burger Bar Detroit, Sukhothai, Estia Greek Street, Chiqui and Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina.

All restaurants are expected to open by summer 2016.
