Female workers lost more than 160,000 retail jobs between October 2016 and October 2017. During that same period, men gained 106,000 retail jobs, according to the Institute for women's policy research.
Its CEO says she thinks the gap is there because home improvement and auto stores are doing well, and the tend to hire more men.
Meanwhile, department and clothing stores, which tend to hire more women, are struggling.
